General Counsel, GE South Asia
Tejal Patil is the General Counsel for GE South Asia (India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Nepal), leading a large team of legal and compliance professionals in the company supporting ~36 legal entities. Present in India since 1902, GE has over 18,000 employees across its power, healthcare, aviation and transportation businesses which include ~5,300 technologists at GE’s research center and multiple manufacturing facilities. In 2015, GE acquired the power business of Alstom globally, which included its two listed companies in India.
Tejal is a key member of the region leadership team reporting to the CEO, GE South Asia and the General Counsel of GE Global Organization (all countries outside the USA). She sits on the board of GE India Industrial Pvt. Ltd, the flagship company for GE in India which houses several of its businesses and shared services. Tejal is also the General Counsel for the GE Power businesses operating in the region. The breadth of her role encompasses many areas of commercial contracting, mergers and acquisitions, litigation, labor and employment, legal entity management, competition law and intellectual property. Her key responsibilities are to provide strategic and risk counsel to the CEO and other senior leaders, create and maintain a culture of compliance in the company and drive integration efforts for the function.
Prior to this role, Tejal was the General Counsel for GE Healthcare, Asia Pacific located in Singapore at a time when the global healthcare industry was undergoing unprecedented macro-economic and regulatory environment changes. Having joined GE in 2001, she has also had the opportunity to support the GE Aircraft Engines, CNBC and GE Consumer & Industrial businesses in Asia Pacific over 17 years in GE, supporting the commercial and sourcing functions as well as manufacturing plants in China, ASEAN, Korea, Japan and ANZ, research and development centers in China and India, establishing and divesting joint ventures in the region.
Tejal has a law degree from Government Law College, Mumbai and is also a qualified solicitor of England & Wales as well as the Bombay Incorporated Law Society.
She is the Co- Leader for GE Women’s Network, Asia Pacific and an active member of the CII Sub-Committee on Integrity and Transparency in Governance and the GE India CSR Committee.
Tejal has lived in USA, Singapore and Japan and is currently based in New Delhi. She is married with three children.
