Reem Alsalem

Humanitarian and Refugee Issues Consultant.

Reem Alsalem is a Palestinian/Jordanian a consultant that is specialised in humanitarian and refugee issues. She spent 17 years with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) before becoming independent in 2016 to pursue the many interests that she has. While working with UNHCR, Reem served on all continents. She was deployed five times as part of UNHCR’s response teams to the massive emergency situations in Darfur (2004); Pakistan (2005); Lebanon (2006); Libya (2011); and Jordan and Lebanon in response to the influx of Syrian refugees (2013).

Since October 2016, she also currently convenes and tutors a module in the MA in Refugee Protection and Forced Migration Studies at the University of London on asylum and refugees in Africa and Latin America.

Reem has an MA in International Human Rights Law (2003) from Oxford University and an MA in International Relations (1999) from the American University in Cairo.

When she is not working, Reem is a passionate traveler who loves to explore other countries and cultures. She believes that her parents, her travels, and the refugees she has served have been the biggest inspirations and teachers in her life so far.
