Barbara Levi Mager
General Counsel & Global Head of Legal, Sandoz
Barbara is a senior executive with over 20 years of legal & compliance experience in the life science industry and in private practice. Her experience covers a broad spectrum of legal and compliance topics relating to various parts of the pharmaceuticals value chain, business, and geographies.
Currently, Barbara is the Sandoz Global Head Legal and General Counsel and a member of the Sandoz Executive Committee. In this role, she leads a team of over 200 professionals in Legal, IP and Compliance.
Before joining Sandoz (the generics Division of Novartis, a leader in Biosimilars), Barbara held several senior legal roles in Novartis Pharma spanning a broad spectrum of legal and compliance topics. Her roles in Novartis Pharma included Global Legal Head for Product Strategy & Commercialization/Transactions, General Counsel for Asia-Pacific, Middle East and Africa, and Global Legal Head for Technical Operations. In addition, Barbara led cross-divisional practice teams, building capabilities in and establishing standards and processes for compliance with trade sanctions and Anti-Bribery.
Barbara joined the Novartis Group in 2004, at the global headquarters of Sandoz, at that time located in Vienna, as Legal Counsel and Deputy Global Compliance Officer, where she had the opportunity to be part of the team building the Compliance Function.
Before joining Novartis, Barbara has worked as litigator in law firms in Milan (Italy) and as corporate and transactional attorney in law firms in New York City (US) for several years. She is an attorney-at-law, admitted to the U.S. Supreme Court, the New York Bar, and the Italian Bar in Milan.
Barbara is a member of the board of Medicines for Europe (formerly EGA). She is passionate about leadership and gender quality and, as mother of four children, has a wide interest in societal and community topics – she served as a board member of the International School in Basel from February 2015 to June 2016.
