President, Walmart Asia Realty
Peter Sharp is a twenty seven-year retail real estate veteran and serves as President of Walmart Asia Realty based out of Hong Kong. He has regional responsibilities for the company’s growth strategy in Asia by securing the best locations and making land acquisitions for stores and distribution centers with a large focus on operational efficiency. Prior to this position he was the Senior Vice President of Business Development in Asia.
Peter joined Walmart in 1997 and previously has served as SVP of Development, The Seiyu Ltd, Japan 2002 to 2008 owned by Walmart and Senior Director of Development, ASIA, based out of Shenzhen, China from 1997 to 2002.
Peter was educated in his home country of Australia. Accredited Shopping Center Manager (CSMA) from BOMA. Serves on the Boards of Walmart subsidiary companies in China and India and was a formerly a board member the retail companies in Japan.
Prior to joining the company, Peter worked in Indonesia for a shopping mall development company based in Jakarta and opened the MegaMal Center in 1996. Peter also worked for the Queensland State Government Superannuation fund, QIC managing shopping malls on the East Coast of Australia. Retail Real Estate management skills were learns at Byvan, the largest independent shopping mall management company in Australia in the early 1990’s, where he managed both suburban and regional properties in Sydney & Brisbane.
Peter’s original passion for Retail grew from working in hardware and menswear stores as a teenager and in K-Mart Australia where he was a co-manager.
He serves in a variety of capacities in the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) in Asia to provide both Educational & Networking opportunities in the Shopping Mall Industry and Retailer sector and is a frequent Speaker at Real Estate Events through ASIA.
